Wrong drug dispensed by pharmacy, young boy hospitalized

When a doctor prescribes medication, we go to our local Wilmington pharmacy and have the prescription filled. Few of us check the bottle to make sure we get the right prescription. Even fewer would probably notice if the long word on the bottle matches the illegible scribble on the physician's prescription. But we probably should because pharmacists make mistakes and those errors could be fatal.

Recently it was reported that a pharmacist mistakenly put Methadone in a bottle for a young boy instead of methylphenidate, which is a generic form of Ritalin. The pharmaceutical error was only discovered when the mother was in the emergency room and the ER doctor told her that her 7-year-old son was overdosing from Methadone.
